Nathan Hilkert –

About his early years, Pastor Nathan says, “it’s complicated.” After years spent between Germany, Colorado, Oklahoma, Ohio and Georgia, his family settled in the Atlanta area in 1987, and this has been home ever since. After working for a newspaper (The Athens Banner Herald) and teaching English, he studied at Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, in Columbia, South Carolina, and was ordained a pastor in 2008. Pastor Nathan has been at Holy Cross since August 1, 2017. Pastor Nathan enjoys running, writing, and home-brewing. He’s married to Heidi, an elementary school teacher, and they are proud parents of Stella, Lucy, and Penny. They love Athens, and are tremendously excited to see what God has in store for the folks of Holy Cross.

Amanda Spangler –

Faith Formation Director

Deaconess Amanda was born in Huntsville, Alabama, in 1985. She tried very hard to be a Halloween baby, but her medical team wasn't having it. She is a bit of a wanderer, having lived in 16 cities in Alabama, Tennessee, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Georgia, and the Federal Republic of Germany. She graduated from Valparaiso University in 2008 with a B.A. in German and theology. She was consecrated to diaconal ministry in 2010 by the Lutheran Deaconess Community after training for three years with the Lutheran Deaconess Association. She completed an M.A. in biblical languages and literature at Loyola University Chicago in 2013 and moved in a southerly direction for the first time in nine years.

Amanda likes 1) Doctor Who, B) British TV and radio, 3) languages, iv) tea, 5) travel, 6) coffee shops, g) reading, viii) banana juice, 9) pretending to be crafty, and *) thinking thinky thoughts. NPR and PBS rock her socks straight off her feet (which explains why they're always so cold!). She is full-time housemaid to two tortoiseshell cats, Pi and Sienna.
